Lakeshore Status Symbol

I apparentlly have no willpower when I get a Lakeshore newsletter and an almost-sold-out run is mentioned.  Which is why I now own a Status Symbol, SR of 12 in a gorgeous silver bay.

This is the only real flaw on him, but since it's his non-show side, and I mostly photo show, it won't be a big problem.

Updated injured list

I keep remembering and finding more.

  1. Dapple-grey Kelso with broken leg
  2. Dark brown Kelso with broken leg
  3. Ballylee with broken leg
  4. Green Shermie with broken tail
  5. Buck deer with broken antler
  6. Incoming Elk from Tracy with broken antler
  7. A lot of Western Horses with missing ear tips
  8. SM Magnolia chase with broken tail
  9. Brabant Wixom with broken ear
  10.  SM grey/white Native Dancer with Gumby-leg
  11. Wildfire (San Domingo) with Gumby-leg
  12.

And, I stopped at Michaels today.  Turned out that acrylic paints are 40% off, today only, for your whole purchase.  Found Mars black and burnt umber, should have gone back for the other umbers and siennas.  Tried to do it online, but my purchase was flagged because something was out of stock - but the purchase flag doesn't say which one, just that one of the 8 things is out of stock.  Argh.

New horses, with a stowaway

I met a local hobbyist (Tracy) in town yesterday - she'd bought a bunch of models from someone in her area, and I bought a few from her.  Also sold her a blue chase Alborozo.  So we met to swap horses.

I now have the palomino Grazing Mare and Adios that I've been looking for. And the Elk!  Got him free, since he's got a bum antler.  Turned out that it's been broken before and was pinned, but broke at the original break.  But it should be a fairly easy fix.

And, there was a stowaway gift - the vintage bay Stretch Morgan I've also been hunting for a while!!  He's even got eyewhites, and is practically mint.  Hobby people are good people.

Goals in progress

Progress has been made on some of the hobby goals.

*  I spent a few hours sorting through the pile of available (reachable, not packed) Stablemates.  So far, I've got about 50 packed up for the upcoming swap meet.  At least 20 more are waiting to be packed up.  And while most of my herd is boxed away, There are a couple of bookcases full that I can get to, and I may weed through those for duplicates.

*  I've been making a list, ever-growing, of horses that need to be fixed.  I need to search for some Youtube tutorials on repairing.  I found a Facebook group, but so many of the questions asked there are never answered.  ModelHorseBlab has a forum for "Finishing, Prepping, and Repairing" but 90% of it seems to be on customizing.  I've been going through the whole forum.  There are 88 pages of threads, 30 threads per page; I started at the end, working forward to newest posts, and am up to page 24 now.  So far, I've found a dozen or so threads that are helpful.

I need to look through my old JAH issues and see if I can find the articles on repairs that they printed.  Somewhere in the house, I've also got most of the back issues of the Hobby Horse News magazine, which may also have some articles; I can't remember if I saw any or not.  I've found mentions of a couple of hobby-produced books; one is on Amazon at $12.95 for a 36-page book.  The other one seems to have disappeared.

Pinterest seems to have some resources, but I really, REALLY don't want a Pinterest account.  My list of unstarted and unfinished projects is long enough as it is.

Look! New design

I've been fiddling with the blog design.  Got a new theme, because I wanted to change the column widths (the big empty left bar bugged me) and the green theme didn't have adjustable widths.

2020 Hobby Goals

Hobby goals for 2020

1.  Get the inventory up to date, including tagging all the reachable horses
2.  Look into converting the spreadsheet to a database
3.  Thin out the duplicate blind-bag SMs (I do NOT need 8 chestnut ASBs)
4.  Start learning to do paint touch-ups and minor repairs.  The list of scuffed and broken horses is getting out of hand.
5.  Set up a photo area and get showable pics of at least 20 horses
6.  Find another curio for the Lakeshores

Right now, the injured list is:

  1. Dapple-grey Kelso with broken leg
  2. Dark brown Kelso with broken leg
  3. Ballylee with broken leg
  4. Green Shermie with broken tail
  5. Buck deer with broken antler
  6. Incoming Elk from Tracy with broken antler
  7. A lot of Western Horses with missing ear tips

I think I'll call him Ziggy

One of the big church rummage sales last weekend listed a 1960s Breyer horse in their ad, so I decided to go see what it was.  I didn't rush, because the odds of it being something awesome are pretty slim, and got there about 2 hours in to the sale.

For $20, I brought him home.  He's practically mint, just has eartip and a poll rub, and a scratch on one hip that may have happened in the bag as I went to the car.  Still has hoof and tail pad remnants, and shading on the manly bits.
